How to avoid fly-tipping risk

Most waste collectors are honest, but rogue operators can leave customers with dumped waste, stress and possible fines. These warning signs are worth knowing.

Red flags before collection

Walk away if the collector refuses to provide a licence number, only accepts cash, cannot say where the waste will go, or turns up in an unmarked vehicle with no business details.

  • No waste carrier registration number
  • No receipt or written proof
  • Very cheap social media-only adverts
  • Vague answers about disposal sites

Check before waste leaves your property

Once your waste is gone, it is harder to prove what happened. Checking the licence first and keeping a record of the booking gives you a clearer paper trail.

If something feels wrong

Do not hand over the waste. Search for another licensed carrier, ask for proof, and use the licence checker before agreeing to collection.

Check a licence now

Run a quick licence check before handing waste to anyone.
