Householder duty of care
If your waste is fly-tipped, you may be asked what checks you made before handing it over. The good news is that a few simple steps can protect you.Use a registered waste carrier
Before booking, ask for the carrier's licence number and check it against the public register. Keep a note of the number with your booking details.
Keep proof of collection
Ask for a receipt, invoice or message confirming who collected the waste and when. For larger jobs, ask where the waste is being taken.
- Business name and phone number
- Vehicle registration if possible
- Date, time and collection address
Be careful with very cheap cash offers
A price that seems too good to be true can be a warning sign. Proper disposal costs money, especially for mattresses, fridges, rubble and mixed loads.
Search licensed carriers
Find waste carriers near you and check their licence details before you call.
